Everyone has the right to rest and leisure, including reasonable limitation of working hours and periodic holidays with pay.
I had initially sketched out an idea for this which I had rendered with rendering pens (I have lost it). It had followed the design mostly. However, the rounded squares were originally overlapping circles. But actually I’m glad I lost that paper design as I discovered a few things. When trying to make the individual circles I accidentally misshaped one and one side looked like a rounded square. I realised that if i did this to all of them I would be left with a star like arrangement which I had not previously plan. This just so happened to fit in with the use of the Typeface, in this case, Futura because of its ties to the Bauhaus, an influence on this design. Futura is constructed using basic geometric shapes. Along with a 5 column grid structure and a 8px grid, I used simple shapes, constructed using point line, plane to set the scene for a space where the typeface could interact. I used the colour blue as it has been mentioned in the Bauhaus that a circle is ‘blue’, even when colour has not been addd to it, it has an association with the colour. So for something that could be translated to a restful colour in its darker tones and a colour asociated with technology, screens and a 247 environment i thought it appropriate to use for Article 24 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Having watched a documentary about the Bauhaus, I saw that movement/performance was one of the disciplines in which Johannes Itten encouraged. What if the components within a design performed to communicate a message and interacted with other ’disciplines’ (items with other roles) with the page as their stage. So I took the design further. I have to admit, this initial design came about very quickly and I I said to myself, ‘that can’t be it, surely.’ so I made loads of variations.
